Gallery Statement

• Romantic relationships, getting older, and faith deconstruction were all fast and dizzying experiences that seemed to make more sense when I scribbled them down, as one would the morning after a bizarre dream. This record constitutes the scribbles, the interpretations, the translations.

We called in synths, gutted percussion, and a generous use of falsetto to create a grieving, Retro-Pop sonic world. Beyond that surface, optimistic ballads and bright guitar lines carry modern messages. This tension was important to me at the time, as a late teen looking back at childhood familiarity, into the exciting seasickness of your 20’s. In this way, I felt like a truth teller. Growing up is neutral: no flowers grow there. We add them ourselves in the stories we tell.
